COMMUNITY GRADING UPDATE – 12 March 2025

  • U10-U18s boys/mixed – grading enrolments have closed. The technical team are busy reviewing teams. Due to the large number of players that graded, this process will take a couple of weeks. If we are short on players for certain teams we may put out a call for players in some ages. Some players might be contacted for further grading sessions. Only players who received an email should attend.
  • U10-U18s girls – the next grading sessions for girls will be Wednesday 12 March at 5:30pm and Friday 14 March at 5:30pm at Nicholls Synthetic Fields. We encourage players to attend both sessions if possible. We also welcome new players to come and try.
  • U10-U18s Goalkeepers – grading for goalkeepers will be held Friday 14 March at 5.30pm at Nicholls Synthetic Fields (postponed on Wed 12 March). This is for both female and male players. Complete the goalkeeper EOI by 12 March if you would like to attend.
  • U16 boys/mixed – seeking new players for the next grading session on Wednesday 12 March at 5:30pm at Nicholls Synthetic Fields.

MiniRoos (Ages 5 to 9)

Our MiniRoos program is the perfect introduction to football for kids aged 5 to 9. These sessions are all about fun, inclusion, and learning the basics of the game in a supportive environment.

Small-sided games encourage more touches on the ball and active participation.

Simplified rules ensure children stay engaged and develop confidence.

Sessions are designed to focus on skills like dribbling, passing, and teamwork, while fostering a love for the game.
MiniRoos at Gungahlin United are about creating a positive foundation for young players to enjoy football for life.

Community Juniors (Ages 10 to 18)

Our Community Juniors program offers structured training and competitive play for players aged 10 to 18.

Teams are grouped by age and skill level, allowing for fair competition and development.

Weekly matches provide an exciting platform for players to showcase their growth and teamwork.

Training focuses on improving technical skills, tactical awareness, and physical fitness in a fun and inclusive setting.

At Gungahlin United, we aim to build confidence and character in all our junior players.

Community Seniors (Ages 18+)

Football doesn’t stop when you turn 18! Our Community Seniors program provides a welcoming environment for adults to continue playing. We offer teams for various skill levels, from competitive to social.

Whether you’re looking to stay fit, make friends, or play for the love of the game, there’s a place for you at Gungahlin United.

Matches are held regularly throughout the season, and our teams thrive on camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Masters (Ages 35+)

For players aged 35 and above, our Masters program is all about enjoying football in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. The focus is on fitness, social connections, and having fun.

Matches are structured to accommodate all fitness levels, ensuring an enjoyable experience for everyone.

This is a great way to stay active, reconnect with football, and make lasting friendships. At Gungahlin United, football is truly for everyone, at every stage of life.

WHAT IS COMMUNITY GRADING?

From U10s to U18s, GUFC players can choose whether they want to continue down the fun and fitness route by playing with their friends in an ungraded team (Division 3), or they can attend the GUFC grading sessions to be considered for a Division 1 or Division 2 team for a more competitive season with other players keen to play at a higher level for greater challenge and improvement.

The aim of grading is to place players in a division best suited to their skills and their ability to improve while keeping their confidence in mind.  It is not simply about players getting into the highest grade possible. To ensure an unbiased selection of players, a number of coaches, approved by the GUFC technical team, will supervise and conduct the grading with coaches from last season asked to provide their input where possible.

Note: At GUFC we ask that people are registered to play with GUFC prior to grading so that we can (a) ensure we are only offering team placements to those players committed to playing with Gungahlin United, and (b) so that all players are covered by insurance in the event of injury during grading.  If there is a reason why you can’t register with GUFC prior to grading, then it’s essential that you fill in the  Intent to Register Form which will be supplied by Capital Football shortly.

WHEN AND WHERE IS COMMUNITY GRADING?

We suggest they bring something warm to put on after their session in the event it gets cold. When referring to age groups please note that any reference to U10, U11, U12 etc refers to our open/mixed teams. These teams tend to be mainly boys teams. Girls specific grading sessions refer to our girls only teams.  If you are wondering what age to enrol your child, please enrol them in their actual age group. Information on birth years can be found on the Registration PageRefer to information further down this page regarding playing outside the age group.

PLAYING OUTSIDE AGE GROUP

What is the Club policy on playing outside the age group?

GUFC players are expected to play in a team based on their birth age group. ‘playing outside of age’ (up or down) is generally discouraged as in most cases it is in the best interests of the  Club and the player for them to play at their appropriate age group. However, we do understand there are some circumstances when a player wishes to be considered to play up an age, and there are also circumstances when a child wishes to be considered to play down an age.

To view the GUFC Policy on playing outside their age group, please refer to our Governance page for all policies and procedures.

If you would like your player to be considered outside of their age group, please fill out this Playing Outside of Age Request form here.

CAN I SUBMIT AN ENTIRE TEAM TO PLAY IN GUFC COMMUNITY JUNIORS?

Division 1 and Division 2 teams CANNOT be submitted as a team to play for GUFC Community Juniors. All Division 1 and Division 2 teams are selected via the grading process and these teams may look different each year.

However, if you would like to submit a Division 3 team you can do so via our Social Team Nomination Form.  Please note the wording on that form carefully as it pertains to your age group and the note regarding GUFC teams being subject to the rules and direction of Capital Football within the Juniors competition space.
